Senior Insurance Underwriter - Commercial Lines
Posted 2025-06-06Amwins Program Underwriters (APU), An Amwins Group Company, is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our team in Portsmouth, NH. This is a remote position with limited travel to the team throughout the year. The primary focuses of this position will be to grow the specific program book of business profitably through retention and new business goals established by the Program Manager and the development of relationships with key program production sources.

Pursuant to state regulations, the salary range for this position is $75,000 to $105,000, and includes eligibility for performance-based bonuses.
Senior Production Underwriter duties:
Responsible to manage the larger, more complex accounts handled by the team
Underwrites new and renewal program business for acceptability based on guidelines established by company and APU; reviews applications, coverages, classifications, exposures, financial condition and losses, claims and engineering reports, discusses pricing with producer, broker or agent, quotes accounts within authority
Submits accounts above authority to company with suggested pricing and negotiates pricing with company
Re-rates quotations as necessary
Prepares and sends out proposals
Completes Account Summary for each account
Reviews bound account information
Initiates and assists sales staff with new business development, when appropriate
Serves as primary contact for agents and brokers
Serves as interface between carrier and agents/brokers
Maintains premium and exposure information in underwriting systems, including comments as necessary
Maintains account logs for control of outstanding items
Orders loss control in accordance with company guidelines, reviews completed reports and takes appropriate action, as necessary
Responsible for coverage changes and policy form modifications, works in conjunction with company to provide modifications
Coordinates with other department personnel; consults engineering, claims and sales personnel to obtain necessary information in the handling of an account.
Responds to phone calls and e-mails in a timely fashion
Acts as departmental resource; answers technical and general questions from others in department
Provides guidance, direction and mentoring to team members as needed
Approves endorsements outside authority of other team members and refers those outside own authority
Completes Rate Change Reports
Quality controls policies, proposals and binding acknowledgements
Performs quarterly quality control Self Assessments and AIG Self Audits on peer files
Performs other duties as assigned
Senior Production Underwriter requirements: 5-7 years of multi-line commercial underwriting or equivalent experience Bachelors degree and AINS, ARM OR CPCU designation completed or in process with goal to complete Prior experience underwriting program business a plus
